Looking back at the 2024 Season of Team de Weerd

A stellar 2024 season for Team de Weerd.

As we look back on the 2024 pigeon racing season, Team de Weerd has much to celebrate. This year has been marked by an incredible series of victories, personal bests, and high placings in both local (Rayon 3) and provincial (Brabant 2000) competitions. While pigeon racing always involves a mixture of genetics, preparation, strategy, and luck, our team has shown exceptional consistency and determination across all these elements.

Dominating Rayon 3: 16 First-Place Finishes

In Rayon 3, a subdivision of the Brabant 2000 competition, Team de Weerd truly shined. Over the course of the season, we claimed an impressive 16 first-place finishes, reinforcing our status as one of the top teams in the region.

This achievement stands out not only because of the number of victories but also due to the variety of races in which we excelled. Our birds performed at distances varying from short sprints (Vitesse) to longer, more challenging midfond races, consistently coming out on top.

A Year of Near-Perfection in the Provincial Competition

In the Brabant 2000 provincial competition, where hundreds of top-tier pigeons compete, Team de Weerd achieved outstanding results. We secured 2 first-place finishes and were narrowly beaten into second place 7 times! Although we fell just shy of claiming 9 first-place wins, these results underscore the competitive edge and resilience of our pigeons. Reaching the podium consistently against such high-level competitors is an achievement in itself and a testament to the quality of our breeding and training.

Ace Pigeons: Stars of the Season

Among our flock, two pigeons emerged as the undeniable stars of the 2024 season, claiming Ace Pigeon titles representing the epitome of performance and consistency.

1. NL23-9366066 Ace Pigeon Vitesse (Short Distance):
One of our top-performing pigeons claimed the title of Ace Pigeon Vitesse for short distance races in Rayon 3 and the provincial competition. To be crowned the top short-distance pigeon across the entire province is a rare and remarkable feat, showing just how exceptional this bird has been all season long. Always being well in the top 10% of finishers.

Her father is a 100% Danny van Dyck cock, with a mix of genetics from his famous birds “DiCaprio”, “Kanon” and “Kanibaal”.

The mothers side comes from our loft manager Eric Berckmoes. His fantastic breeding couple “Late Sprint” & “Geeloogske Sprint” showing their amazing short distance genetics once more as great-grandparents of NL23-9366066

2.NL24-8465059 Ace Pigeon Young Birds (General):
Another one of our standout pigeons dominated the young bird competition in Rayon 3, achieving the Ace Pigeon Young Birds title. Even more impressive, this pigeon also ranked 1st in the provincial young bird competition, proving its mettle against the best young birds in Brabant 2000. Its consistent top finishes in races bode well for its future as it matures into a full-season competitor.

This is a true “Dr. de Weerd Pigeons” bird. Bred from a mix of many top quality pigeons from top quality fanciers. In this bird we can see a mix of; Stefaan Lambrechts, Gaston vd Wouwer, Willy Daniels, Rik Hermans, Danny van Dyk, and of course Dr. de Weerd himself.

Looking to the Future

As we reflect on the 2024 season, we can’t help but feel immense pride in the accomplishments of our pigeons and our team as a whole. With two local Ace Pigeons, numerous podium finishes, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Team de Weerd has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in both Rayon 3 and the provincial Brabant 2000 competition.

Of course, pigeon racing is a sport of fine margins, and we were just a few races away from securing even more first-place finishes. Nonetheless, these results set a high bar for the future, and we’re excited to build on this year’s success. With the quality of our pigeons and the dedication of the team, we look forward to even greater achievements in the 2025 season.

The entire team—both human and pigeon—has worked tirelessly this year, and the rewards have been exceptional. We thank everyone who supported us along the way, and we can’t wait to see what next season brings.
